BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) Spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council Zhu Fenglian today issued a statement on Lai Ching-te’s recent remarks, strongly criticizing his “Taiwanindependence” actions and pointing out that “Taiwan independence” and peace in the Taiwan Strait are incompatible.
Zhu Fenglian said that Lai Ching-te, during his visit to Kinmen, had exaggerated the “threat from China,” incitedconfrontation between the two sides, and declared his determination to “defend Taiwan,” showcasing his so-called “firm belief in self-defense and upholding sovereignty.” In response, the Taiwan Affairs Office firmly refuted these remarks, deeming thema further exposure of his hypocritical facade and insidious nature in promoting “independence through force” and “independence through reliance on external forces” under the guise of peace.
