Yang Yongping Appointed President of Lanzhou University

September 21, 2023, Lanzhou, China – In a significant development in the leadership of Lanzhou University, one of China’s premier institutions of higher learning, the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee has approved the appointment of Professor Yang Yongping as the new president and deputy secretary of the university’s party committee. Vice Minister Wu Yan of the Ministry of Education and Party Member of the Party Leadership Group also spoke at the meeting, commending the university’s achievements under the leadership of the outgoing president and expressing optimism about the future under Professor Yang Yongping’s guidance. He encouraged the university to further enhance its global competitiveness and contribute to the nation’s development.

Ming Gang, the party secretary of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee, praised Lanzhou University for its significant contributions to the province’s social and economic development. Professor Yang Yongping, born in April 1967, holds a doctorate in engineering and is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Prior to his appointment at Lanzhou University, he served as the president and deputy secretary of the party committee at North China Electric Power University. His expertise in engineering and academic leadership is expected to drive the university’s growth and innovation in the coming years.
