Beijing Haidian Police Crack Down on Hospital Ticket Scalpers

Beijing,China – In a concerted effort to purify the medical order and safeguard the rights of patientsseeking medical treatment, the Haidian District Public Security Bureau in Beijing has launched a crackdown on illegal activities of ticket scalpers operating around hospitals. The policeaction, which commenced under the city’s unified deployment, employed a small team, small area, small special project cluster strike model to effectively target theissue.

According to a statement released by the Haidian Public Security WeChat public account, the police have criminally detained 33 individuals involved in the illegal activities, seizing over 400 pieces of equipment used in thecrimes, including mobile phones and computers. They also dismantled three illegal dens operating within the district.

The investigation revealed that these ticket scalpers were using external software to preemptively book appointments and occupy slots, thenreselling the scarce appointments to patients at exorbitant prices, often ranging from hundreds to thousands of yuan.

The police investigation began after noticing that appointments for renowned specialists at several hospitals in the district were consistently showing as fully booked online. Further investigation revealed that individuals were actively selling these scarce appointments within online chat groups.

These ticket scalpers were using external software to book appointments before anyone else, then reselling them for a huge profit, said a police officer involved in the investigation. They were taking advantage of the system and making it difficult for patients to access the medical care they need.

The police conducted a series of raids onSeptember 12th, targeting individuals in Beijing and other provinces, seizing a large amount of equipment used in the illegal activities. The seized devices, including mobile phones and tablet computers, were equipped with external software designed to rapidly book appointments, clicking hundreds of times per second. This gave the scalpers a significant advantage overpatients trying to book appointments through legitimate channels.

The Haidian District Public Security Bureau has vowed to continue cracking down on such illegal activities and has reported the discovered medical issues to relevant authorities to encourage improvements in the appointment booking system.

This crackdown highlights the growing problem of ticket scalpers in China’s healthcaresystem. The high demand for medical services, coupled with limited resources, has created a lucrative market for those willing to exploit the system. The police action serves as a strong deterrent against such activities and underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring fair access to healthcare for all citizens.

The police are urging the public toreport any suspected illegal activities related to hospital appointments. They also encourage hospitals to strengthen their appointment booking systems to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

This crackdown is expected to have a significant impact on the illegal activities of ticket scalpers in the Haidian District and serve as a warning to those involved insimilar activities across the country. The police are committed to ensuring that the healthcare system remains fair and accessible to all.
