SEOUL, South Korea – A recent survey conducted by Incheon International Airport Corporation has revealed that 11.2% of South Koreans plan to travel abroad during this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, marking the highest percentage since the survey began in 2020.

The survey, which involved 1,270 individuals aged 18 and above with prior experience of traveling abroad through Incheon Airport, found that Japan (31.1%) and Vietnam (18%) are the most popular destinations. Respondents cited proximity, the depreciation of the yen, and good value for money as reasons for their choices.

The survey was conducted from August 1st to 7th and has a credibility of 97%, with a sampling error of ±1.27 percentage points.

The increase in the number of South Koreans planning to travel abroad during the Mid-Autumn Festival is a significant shift from previous years. In 2020, only 1.9% of respondents reported plans to travel abroad, rising to 2% in 2021, 3.2% in 2022, and 9.3% last year.

This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival holiday falls on September 29th and 30th, and the Incheon International Airport Corporation predicts that the airport will see an average of 201,000 passengers per day during the special traffic measures period from September 13th to 18th.

The popularity of Japan and Vietnam as travel destinations can be attributed to several factors. Japan’s proximity to South Korea makes it an attractive option for short-haul travel, while the depreciation of the yen has made it more affordable for South Koreans to visit.

Vietnam, on the other hand, has been gaining popularity as a travel destination due to its beautiful scenery, rich culture, and favorable exchange rates.

The increase in the number of South Koreans planning to travel abroad during the Mid-Autumn Festival is also a sign of the country’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. As the country continues to reopen its borders and travel restrictions are lifted, more South Koreans are taking advantage of the opportunity to explore new destinations.

The Incheon International Airport Corporation has been working to ensure that the airport is well-prepared to handle the increased number of passengers during the holiday period. This includes deploying additional staff, improving transportation links, and enhancing security measures.

The survey also found that a significant number of South Koreans plan to travel domestically during the Mid-Autumn Festival. This suggests that the holiday is not only a time for international travel but also a time to reconnect with family and friends.

As South Koreans prepare for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, the survey results indicate that the holiday will be a time for both domestic and international travel, reflecting the country’s growing interest in exploring new destinations and experiences.

In conclusion, the survey conducted by Incheon International Airport Corporation highlights the increasing popularity of international travel during the Mid-Autumn Festival. With Japan and Vietnam emerging as the top destinations, the holiday is expected to be a time of joy and celebration for many South Koreans.
