Steel Structures Lead the Way: Assembled Steel Structure for Civil Buildings Industry TechnologyInnovation Strategic Alliance Holds Technical Exchange Meeting

Shanghai, China -On September 3rd, the Assembled Steel Structure for Civil Buildings Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance held a technical exchange meeting and the 10thanniversary celebration of its establishment as a national pilot alliance at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. The event, themed Steel Leading the Industry, Hundred Enterprises Creating theFuture, brought together over 100 representatives from member units, enterprises in the steel structure construction field, and experts and scholars.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures from the industry, including Xia Nong, Vice President of the ChinaIron and Steel Industry Association; Lu Pengcheng, Party Secretary, Chairman of China Baowu Zhonggang International Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., Chairman of Baosteel Engineering Technology Group Co., Ltd., and Dean of China Baowu DesignInstitute; Li Guoqiang, Director of the Alliance’s Expert Committee and Professor at Tongji University; and Zhang Lixin, President of the Shanghai Metal Structure Industry Association. Huang Yin, Chief Engineer of Baosteel Jianke, the secretariat unit of the alliance, hosted the event.

Xia Nong highlighted the favorabledevelopment opportunities for steel structure buildings in China while acknowledging the challenges, particularly the lagging development of steel structure housing. He emphasized the need for a complete industrial chain to match China’s advanced steel production capacity and abundant steel product output. He stressed that the high-quality development of steel structure buildings and steel structure housing in Chinarelies heavily on scientific and technological support. He also offered suggestions for the alliance’s future work, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling its mission, addressing key issues, refining operational mechanisms, and achieving tangible results.

Lu Pengcheng underscored the transformative power of assembled steel structure for civil buildings, highlighting its advantages in terms of environmentalfriendliness, construction efficiency, quality reliability, and structural stability. He emphasized that the alliance’s establishment is a crucial step towards promoting technological innovation and progress in this industry.

Li Guoqiang emphasized the alliance’s achievements since its inception, particularly in addressing common and critical technical bottlenecks in the assembled steel structure building industry.The alliance has successfully developed highly competitive assembled steel structure building products and implemented various effective initiatives. Li Guoqiang highlighted the alliance’s commitment to leveraging market mechanisms and collaborative innovation among industry, academia, and research institutions. He emphasized the alliance’s efforts to integrate resources, drive technological innovation, build an innovation chain around theindustrial chain, and transform scientific and technological achievements into productive forces, ultimately enhancing the industrial innovation capabilities of its member enterprises.

Zhang Lixin emphasized the significance of developing steel structure buildings in achieving China’s dual carbon goals. He stated that steel structure buildings represent a crucial pathway for the construction industry to achieve thesegoals, while also optimizing the consumption structure of steel used in construction and aligning with the requirements of green and low-carbon development. He highlighted China’s unique position as having the world’s largest potential steel structure building market, making it ideally suited for promoting the widespread adoption of steel structures. He emphasized that steel structurebuildings are at the beginning of a period of rapid development in China, with a promising future.

The event also featured technical exchanges and presentations by prominent figures in the field, including Li Yuanqi, Professor at Tongji University and Deputy Director of the National Engineering Technology Research Center for Precast Assembly of Civil Structures; LiFengbin, Director of the Building Materials Solutions Center at China Baowu Central Research Institute; Wang Zhe, Deputy Chief Engineer of the China Academy of Building Standards Design, Director of the Steel Structure Institute; and Ma Shuxin, Deputy General Manager of Baosteel Jianke, Executive Deputy General Manager and ChiefEngineer of Baosteel Steel Structure.
