In a significant recognition of its educational excellence, a primary school in Huadu District, Guangzhou, has been awarded the title of National Education System Advanced Collective. The honor was bestowed upon the七星小学 (Qixing Primary School) during the 40th Teacher’s Day celebration and the commendation ceremony for outstanding collectives and individuals in the national education system, held in Beijing on September 8.
A Legacy of Excellence
Established in 1963, Qixing Primary School now spans three campuses with a student population of over 2,600. In recent years, the school has embraced the educational philosophy of seeing every child, focusing on building a distinctive educational brand known as Colorful Ropes, Shining Stars. With the development goal of Rope Linking Five Education Aspects, Diverse Development, Lively Harmony, and Excel Beyond, the school has attempted to construct a Joyful and Harmonious Rope Culture Education System.
A Unique Educational Approach
Qixing Primary School has gained widespread recognition for its rope skipping program. The school has nurtured over 30 world rope skipping champions through this initiative. Many people have come to know Qixing Primary School through our rope skipping program, said Principal Wei Yanping. We have cultivated more than 30 world champions through this simple rope.
Under the Joyful and Harmonious Rope Culture Education System, the school has fully exploited the educational value of using ropes to cultivate morality, intelligence, physical health, beauty, and labor. The integration of rope skipping into physical education classes, morning exercises, and break activities has led to the creation of an engaging rope aerobics routine, significantly improving students’ physical and mental health.
Achievements and Accolades
The school’s rope skipping team has achieved remarkable success, with their story even being turned into a children’s励志 film titled Sparkle by Sparkle, which won awards at multiple international film festivals. The Guangzhou Huadu representative team, primarily consisting of Qixing students, secured 14 gold, 8 silver, and 4 bronze medals at the 2023 World Rope Skipping Championships. Sixth-grade student Tang HaoFan won five gold medals, becoming the brightest star on the field.
The school’s achievements are not limited to rope skipping. The Golden Valley Orienteering Team has won the Guangzhou champion for seven consecutive years, while the Golden Valley Cheerleading Team has achieved numerous accolades at national cheerleading competitions. The school’s football, basketball, table tennis, and chess teams have also excelled, contributing over 60 reserve talents to various sports talent bases.
In the past three years, the school’s educational quality has seen a significant improvement, with 35 teachers being recognized as district-level and above outstanding educators. Students and teachers have collectively won 3,167 awards at the district level and above. Qixing Primary School has been honored with titles such as a traditional sports school in Guangzhou, one of the first schools selected for the师德师风 (Teacher Ethics and Style) program in Guangzhou, an advanced provincial文明校园 (Civilized Campus), a national model rope skipping school, a national cheerleading training base, and a national campus football characteristic school.
Fostering Red Education and Beyond
Qixing Primary School places special emphasis on red education, establishing the Spark of the Stars Party building brand, making red education a driving force for the school’s development. The school also leverages the integration of aesthetics and labor education, utilizing reading spaces and labor bases to create a high-quality reading environment known as Cultivating Elegance, Golden Valley Aroma, where students can read and work on campus. The school has been selected as a high-quality and warm rural campus in Guangzhou, with its Golden Valley Experimental Field being included in the national botanical garden system as the only campus science popularization demonstration point in Huadu District.
