The 26th edition of the Nongshim Cup World围棋Team Championship and the 2nd Nongshim Baesangsu Cup World围棋Seniors Strongest Tournament are set to kick off simultaneously on September 4 in Yanji City, Jilin Province, China. This highly anticipated event will see top围棋players from South Korea, China, and Japan competing in the first phase of both tournaments.

The Nongshim Cup, a prestigious team event, will hold its first phase over four days from September 5 to 8. The second phase will take place from November 30 to December 4, followed by the final third phase in February next year, which will be held in Busan and Shanghai. The defending champions, South Korea, led by the likes of Shin Jinseo, Shin Minjun, Kim Myungwon, Jeong Hyeonjun, and Park Tae-hwan, will be aiming for an impressive fifth consecutive title.

China’s team, composed of Fan Tingyu, Li Xuanhao, Ke Jie, Ding Hao, and Xie Yihao, will pose a strong challenge, while Japan’s squad, featuring Ichiriki Ryo,芝野虎丸,井山裕太, Kyo Kagen, and Hidetsugu, will also look to make their mark on the tournament.

The Nongshim Baesangsu Cup, a tournament for围棋legends, will run from September 5 to 10, with the second phase and final scheduled for February, coinciding with the Nongshim Cup. South Korea’s defending champions, led by the formidable duo of Cho Hanseung and曹薰铉, along with徐能旭 and 金钟秀, will be joined by China’s聂卫平,俞斌, 曹大元, and芮迺伟, and Japan’s 武宫正树, 依田纪基, 小林光一, and 王铭琬.

In the previous edition of the Nongshim Cup, South Korea’s申真谞 secured a remarkable victory, contributing to the team’s triumph and securing their fourth consecutive title. In the first Nongshim Baesangsu Cup, South Korea emerged as the champions, with their experienced players demonstrating their enduring skill and competitive spirit.
