In the 16th chapter of Journey to the West, Tang Sanzang and his apprentice came to a temple called Guanyin Temple on their way to the West to obtain scriptures. That night, Tang Sanzang and his disciples, who were sleeping in the Zen room, were threatened by a fire. Fortunately, Sun Wukong noticed the crisis in time and borrowed a fire shelter from the South Heaven Gate, so that the four masters and disciples survived. However, the black bear took advantage of the fire and stole the precious brocade cassock given to Tang Sanzang by the Buddha. Sun Wukong fought with the black bear many times, but failed to get it back, so he had to ask for help from Guanyin Bodhisattva of the South China Sea.
