HarmonyOS NEXT: Huawei’s Next-Gen Operating System Aims for Seamless Multi-Device Integration

BEIJING, August 29, 2024 – Huawei’s upcoming HarmonyOS NEXT operating system is set to revolutionize multi-device experiences with its free flow feature, enablingseamless transitions and collaboration across various devices. This ambitious initiative aims to create a truly unified ecosystem where users can seamlessly switch between devices and utilize them in tandem.

According to information shared by blogger @Adak封狼居胥, HarmonyOS NEXT will introduce two distinct categories within its multi-device coordination functionality: cross-device migration and multi-device collaboration.

Cross-devicemigration, also known as serial interaction, allows users to seamlessly transfer tasks from one device to another. This functionality ensures that once a task is completed on device A, it seamlessly transitions to device B, with no further action required from the useron device A. Examples of this include the multi-device task center and the super desktop, both of which are currently available in the dual-framework version of HarmonyOS.

Multi-device collaboration, on the other hand, enables users to simultaneously utilize multiple devices to complete a task. This parallel interactionallows for a more dynamic and efficient workflow. For example, users can use their smartphone to control a smart screen or wirelessly cast content to a larger display. These features are also currently available in the dual-framework version of HarmonyOS.

However, HarmonyOS NEXT will introduce two new features for the single-frameworkversion of the operating system: application continuity and native application interconnectivity. These features will enhance the overall user experience by enabling seamless transitions between applications across different devices.

WPS, a popular office suite application, will leverage the native capabilities of the single-framework HarmonyOS to allow users to insert imagesdirectly from their Huawei smartphones or tablets. This integration will streamline the workflow for users who frequently need to incorporate images into their documents.

Furthermore, the single-framework version of HarmonyOS will allow users to import photos from their smartphones or utilize their smartphone cameras directly within the desktop environment. This feature will further enhance the multi-device collaboration capabilities of the operating system.

HarmonyOS PC, the long-awaited desktop version of HarmonyOS, is expected to introduce a more refined and intuitive multi-screen collaboration interface. Shenzhen Kaihong Digital Industry Development Co., Ltd. CEO Wang Chenglu has repeatedly confirmed the development of HarmonyOS PC,and in July, he responded to a user’s query on Weibo, confirming that the operating system would be available this year.

The introduction of HarmonyOS NEXT signifies Huawei’s commitment to creating a truly interconnected ecosystem where users can seamlessly interact with their devices. The new features, including cross-device migration, multi-device collaboration, application continuity, and native application interconnectivity, are expected to revolutionize the way users interact with their devices and enhance their overall productivity.

With the imminent arrival of HarmonyOS PC, Huawei is poised to expand its operating system’s reach and further solidify its position in the global technology landscape.
