Hangzhou-Wenzhou High-Speed Railway Set to Open in EarlySeptember, Cutting Travel Time to One Hour
Hangzhou, China – August29, 2024 – The highly anticipated Hangzhou-Wenzhou High-Speed Railway (Hangwen Railway) is set to officiallyopen in early September, according to a joint announcement by Baisheng and Hangwen Railway Company. This major infrastructure project, a pilot program for national mixed ownershipreform and a demonstration project for social capital investment, will significantly reduce travel time between the two cities to approximately one hour.
The 260-kilometer railway line, designed for a speed of 350 kilometers per hour,stretches south from Tonglu East Station in Hangzhou, traversing Jinhua and Taizhou cities before reaching Wenzhou. It will connect to the renovated Wenzhou South Station. The line features nine stations: Tonglu East, Pujiang,Yiwu, Hengdian, Pan’an, Xianju, Nanxi River, Wenzhou North, and Wenzhou South.
The Hangwen Railway was constructed in two phases. The first phase, covering the Yiwu to Wenzhou section, commenced construction in June 2020. The second phase, connecting Hangzhou to Yiwu, began construction in September 2021. The completion of the entire line will mark a significant milestone in the development of transportation infrastructure in Zhejiang province.
The project has been hailed as a crucial step in enhancing connectivity and promoting economic growth in the region.The reduced travel time will facilitate tourism, business, and cultural exchange between Hangzhou and Wenzhou, fostering closer ties between the two cities.

The announcement comes after the China Railway Corporation (CRC) declared on July 30 that the newly constructed Hangzhou-Wenzhou High-Speed Railway had entered the trial operation phase, signaling the imminent openingof the line.
The Hangwen Railway is expected to become a major transportation artery, facilitating the movement of people and goods between Hangzhou, a major economic and cultural hub in eastern China, and Wenzhou, a coastal city known for its manufacturing and tourism industries.
