SHANGHAI, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — As the rapid development of technologies such as the metaverse and artificial intelligence reshapes the world’s political landscape, the political institute of East China Normal University, Professor Wu Junduan, recently shared his insights with Xinhua News Agency’s “East-West Question” interview program.

Professor Wu noted that post-humanism political ontology is a crucial academic perspective for understanding the essence of the world, the configuration of the community, and the ways in which agents interact with the world. The metaverse, as a cluster of technologies, not only offers immersive experiences but also introduces new ways of thinking to political philosophy. He believes that the emergence of the metaverse compels us to re-examine the interactive relationship between humans and the world, asking if our world is nested within a larger cosmic game, much like a Russian nesting doll.

Professor Wu also highlighted two key aspects for the development of China’s technology politics: “Science and technology is the primary productive force” and “a community with a shared future for mankind.” He argues that technological advancements offer more possibilities for realizing the community with a shared future for mankind. In the context of technological change, how to leverage technology to promote the innovation of the global governance system and build a fairer and more reasonable international order is a significant challenge facing the international community today.

During the interview, Professor Wu also discussed the exchange and co-construction of East-West technology politics. He emphasized that in the context of globalization, countries from both East and West should learn from each other in the research of technology politics and jointly explore new models of world governance that adapt to the rapid development of technology.

Professor Wu’s perspectives offer a new perspective on the impact of technological change on the world’s political landscape and provide ideas for reforming and innovating the global governance system. As technology continues to advance, balancing technological development with human well-being and ensuring the positive impact of technology will be an important issue for future world governance.
