中新网上海8月10日电（范宇斌 商志刚）在民盟盟员、新中国成立后第一代书籍装帧设计艺术家张慈中诞辰100周年之际，张慈中之女张姗姗接受采访时深情追忆了父亲的生平和艺术成就。
张慈中出生于1924年8月10日，是上海人，曾任中国美术家协会会员、民盟文化委员会副主任。他的一生致力于书籍装帧设计，以其独特的艺术风格和对中国装帧设计的贡献而著称。
张姗姗表示，父亲在生活中充满了爱心和细腻的情感，他将本名“治中”改为“慈中”，寓意着心怀慈善。张慈中曾说：“中国是发明造纸术和活字印刷术的国家，我们的书籍装帧艺术理应是世界第一流的。”
张慈中曾为40多家出版社设计了超过2000本（套）不同类型的书籍，包括《列宁全集》、《马克思恩格斯全集》、《资本论》以及第一部《中华人民共和国宪法》、《红旗》杂志创刊号等重要文献。

张姗姗回忆，父亲在生活中最见不得别人受苦，他心软，看到别人处于困境中时会潸然落泪，并施以援手。父亲在转行做书籍装帧设计后，虚心向老一辈文化工作者学习求教，阅读了大量书籍，弥补了先天的不足。
张慈中在装帧设计领域取得了显著成就，他首创了长宋体字，被收录到国家字体库。在《马克思画传》的封面设计上，他用毛笔画出了铜板雕刻的效果，得到了德国同行的称赞。1983年，他带队出访欧洲，回国后立即建议在各大院校开办普及电脑知识的专业课，并提出将电脑教学和电脑艺术设计引入大学教育。他在北京印刷学院创办了中国第一个电脑平面设计艺术系，为国家培养出第一批专业电脑设计艺术人员。

Born on August 10, 1924, in Shanghai, Zhang Cizhong served as a member of the Chinese Artists Association and the Deputy Director of the Cultural Committee of the Chinese People’s Democracy League. When asked about his father’s most proud work, Zhang Shanshan said that he never gave a clear answer, believing that each work had its unique value. Zhang Cizhong’s binding designs spanned a wide range of categories, and he was adept at combining theory with practice, integrating domestic and foreign elements, and innovating in Chinese binding materials and printing techniques, making a significant contribution to improving the overall quality of Chinese book printing.
Zhang Shanshan highlighted her father’s spirit of loyalty to the Party and the country, and his indifference to fame and fortune. She said, “Father was deeply influenced by the spirit of unity and hard work among the broad working people after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and the ‘university’ of society gave him a deeper sense of the people’s heart.”
Zhang Shanshan recalled that her father could not bear to see others suffer, being soft-hearted and shedding tears when others were in distress, offering help. After changing careers to focus on book binding design, he was humble, learning from older cultural workers, reading extensively to make up for his innate shortcomings.
Zhang Cizhong made significant achievements in the field of binding design, creating the long Song-style font and being included in the national font library. In the cover design for “The Graphic Biography of Marx,” he used a brush to achieve the effect of engraving on copper plates, which was praised by German colleagues. In 1983, he led a delegation to visit Europe and immediately suggested that computer knowledge courses be introduced to universities upon his return, proposing the integration of computer education and computer art design into university education. He established the first computer graphic design art department in the Beijing Printing Institute, training the first batch of professional computer design artists for the country.
During his tenure at the State Publishing Administration, Zhang Cizhong nurtured a large number of book binding design personnel for the national publishing industry.
