CHENGDU, March 19 (Xinhua) — The central government has appointed Zhang Liquan as the new president of Xi’an Jiaotong University, according to a notice on the Ministry of Education’s website. Zhang, born in January 1965, holds a doctoral degree in engineering and is a professor. He will also serve as the university’s party committee secretary. Wang Shuguo, the former president and party committee secretary, has stepped down.
Zhang’s appointment was announced at a meeting of faculty and staff on March 19, which was attended by Peng Jinhui, deputy head of the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, who delivered the central government’s decision and spoke at the meeting.
