BEIJING, Feb. 4 (China News Service) — Islamabad – Pakistani former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his current wife Bushra Bibi have been sentenced to seven years in prison by an Islamabad court for marriage-related issues, reported China News Service, citing an official statement.
This is the fourth time that Imran Khan has been convicted by a court since last August.
Imran Khan served as Pakistan’s prime minister from 2018 to 2019. In August of last year, he was sentenced to 30 days in prison for failing to provide marriage documents. Later, he was also sentenced to seven years in prison for alleged forgery and fraud.
The latest conviction relates to the couple’s marriage issues. According to court documents, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi got married in Lahore, Pakistan, in 2018, but they could not provide legal marriage certificates. The court ruled that their marriage violated Pakistani law and sentenced them to seven years in prison.
The couple’s lawyer said they will appeal the judgment. The lawyer said that during his tenure as prime minister, Imran Khan has faced numerous charges, but none of them have been substantiated.
