Recently, the Italian government has proposed to invest approximately 9.3 billion euros (approximately 72.73 billion yuan) to promote the sales of electric vehicles, aiming to improve the outdated and heavily polluted vehicle situation on Italian roads. According to Bloomberg, the Italian Ministry of Industry is considering a plan to spend 9.3 billion euros on incentives to encourage consumers to choose electric vehicles. One of the key measures provides subsidies of up to 108,000 yuan ($1.375 million) for low-income families with annual incomes below 30,000 euros, helping them replace polluting Euro 2 standard old-fashioned gasoline vehicles with new electric vehicles. Even greater subsidies are available for electric vehicles manufactured domestically.

The Italian government stated that there are at least 11 million vehicles with Euro 3 emissions standards or lower on the country’s roads, posing a significant problem. To change this situation, the government aims to learn from France’s “Made in France” incentive policy, helping low-income families purchase domestically manufactured electric vehicles. Meanwhile, the Italian new car market is booming, with new car registrations last year growing by 19% to 1.57 million vehicles. However, gasoline vehicles still dominate the market, and the market share of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles is relatively small.

In contrast, the overall electric vehicle market in the EU is showing steady growth. The latest data shows that the new car registration rate of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the EU has exceeded 24% this year, slightly higher than last year’s level. The Italian government hopes to promote electric vehicles heavily and increase the country’s market share in the electric vehicle segment, as well as improve air quality and make contributions to environmental protection.
