Seoul, July 5 (Yonhap) — Former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol appeared before the independent prosecutor’s office (the Special Investigation Team) this morning for a second round of questioning regarding allegations of insurrection and treason related to the imposition of martial law.
Yoon arrived at the Seoul High Prosecutors’ Office at 9:02 AM and the interrogation officially began at 9:04 AM, according to Park Ji-young, an assistant to the Special Investigation Team, during a press briefing. Notably, this session did not include a preliminary meeting, nor was it video-recorded.
The Special Investigation Team initially focused on allegations that Yoon obstructed the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) from executing an arrest warrant, Park explained. The morning session lasted approximately three hours, pausing at 12:05 PM for Yoon to have lunch. As with the first interrogation, the Presidential Security Service provided the meal. Questioning resumed at 1:07 PM.
The Special Investigation Team indicated that they would continue to investigate the related allegations throughout the afternoon. Should they be unable to complete the interrogation today, they will consider scheduling an additional summons, depending on the progress of the investigation.
According to reports, Assistant Prosecutor Park is leading the interrogation.
