Shenzhen, China – South Korean Go master Park Junghwan 9-dan narrowly missed out on claiming the title at the 15th Chunlan Cup World Professional Go Championship, losing to China’s Yang Kaiwen 9-dan in the final held in Shenzhen on June 23rd.
Park, a five-time world champion, lost the decisive third game of the best-of-three final while playing white. After 183 moves, he resigned, conceding the match and the championship to Yang.
While Park initially established a favorable position on the left side of the board, a crucial mistake in the mid-game allowed Yang to seize the advantage and ultimately secure the victory.
