Seoul, South Korea – The Seoul Central District Court has granted bail to former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, who is implicated in an alleged insurrection plot. The decision, made by the court’s Criminal Trial Division 25 on June 16th, comes after Kim’s arrest on charges of executing key tasks related to insurrection and abuse of power.
The court cited the Criminal Procedure Act, which stipulates a maximum six-month detention period for first-instance arrests. He is also restricted from leaving his designated residence and prohibited from contacting other suspects, defendants, case-related individuals, witnesses, their representatives, or their family members through any means, including in-person meetings, phone calls, letters, faxes, emails, or text messages.
