Seoul, South Korea – Kim Byung-kee, a lawmaker from the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, was elected as the party’s new floor leader on June 13th, Yonhap News Agency reported. The election took place during a general assembly of Democratic Party lawmakers.
Kim, a three-term lawmaker, brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served in the National Intelligence Service for 26 years, earning him a reputation as an intelligence expert. During last year’s National Assembly elections, he served as the secretary of the Democratic Party’s candidate recommendation management committee, playing a crucial role in reorganizing the party with a focus on lawmakers aligned with the pro-Lee Jae-myung faction.
Known for his hard-line stance, Kim’s election signals a potential shift towards a more assertive approach in supporting the Lee Jae-myung administration’s reform agenda.
