Seoul, June 13th – In response to the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the Middle East stemming from the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran, the South Korean government announced today that it is issuing a special travel alert for specific regions within both countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the heightened alert level, effective from June 14th, comes as a precautionary measure to protect South Korean citizens. Previously, the affected areas of Israel and Iran were under a yellow advisory, urging caution. This new special travel alert sits between the yellow (exercise caution) and red (evacuate) levels in South Korea’s four-tiered travel advisory system, which ranges from blue (exercise caution) to black (travel ban). The special alert is valid for 90 days and is typically issued in response to short-term, urgent risks.
The government will maintain its existing red and black alerts for certain areas within Israel, as well as the red alert for specific regions of Iran, indicating a high level of danger.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is strongly advising South Korean citizens to cancel or postpone any planned travel to Israel and Iran. For those currently residing in the affected areas, the ministry urges immediate evacuation to safer locations.
We are closely monitoring the situation in Israel and Iran and will continue to assess the risks to ensure the safety of our citizens, a ministry spokesperson stated.
This decision reflects growing international concern over the potential for further escalation in the region. The South Korean government’s proactive measures underscore its commitment to prioritizing the safety and security of its citizens abroad.
