Yeoncheon, South Korea – Park Jimin and Jeon Jungkook, members of the globally renowned K-pop group BTS, have officially completed their mandatory military service and were discharged from the army on June 11th.
The two singers concluded their 18-month active duty service with the 5th Infantry Division Artillery Brigade in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province. Upon their discharge, they appeared at a commemorative event held at a nearby stadium, where they were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of fans. An estimated 500 fans from both South Korea and abroad gathered early in the morning to welcome their idols back.
I am very grateful to the fans who have patiently waited from the time the COVID-19 pandemic spread until we completed our military service, Jimin stated in his discharge speech. I think we should continue to do what we have to do according to our plans in the future, and we will work hard to show a better side of ourselves.
Jungkook added, It’s been a while since I stood in front of a camera, and I’m a little embarrassed because I didn’t even put on makeup. I am grateful to the comrades who spent time with us in the military.
Jimin and Jungkook enlisted together as active-duty soldiers in December 2023, serving in the 5th Division Artillery Brigade. Their discharge follows that of fellow members Jin (Kim Seok-jin) and j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), who are also currently serving in the military.
