Seoul, South Korea – South Korean President Lee Jae-myung will temporarily reside in the presidential residence located in the Hannam-dong district of Seoul, according to an announcement made on June 5th by presidential spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung. This move comes as the original presidential residence, the Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House), undergoes renovation.
The announcement, reported by Yonhap News Agency, indicates that President Lee will remain in the Hannam-dong residence until the renovations at Cheong Wa Dae are completed. Upon completion, the presidential office will relocate back to the historic Cheong Wa Dae from its current location in Yongsan.
Prior to President Lee’s temporary relocation, the presidential office conducted thorough security and guard inspections of the Hannam-dong residence. Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung explained that the decision to utilize the Hannam-dong residence was made considering the potential impact of moving to a third location on relevant government agencies, as well as the wasteful expenditure of public funds associated with such a move.
This decision marks a temporary shift in the presidential living arrangements as South Korea prepares for the eventual return to its traditional presidential home.
