Beijing, June 6, 2025 – The 7th Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence (BAAI) Conference commenced today at the Zhongguancun Exhibition Center, marking a significant leap forward in the convergence of artificial intelligence and the physical world. At the heart of the conference, BAAI unveiled its groundbreaking Wu Jie (Understanding the World) series of large models, poised to revolutionize how AI interacts with and understands our surroundings.

The Wu Jie series comprises a suite of advanced models, each designed to tackle specific challenges in bridging the gap between the digital and physical realms:

  • Emu3: A native multi-modal world model designed to understand and simulate complex real-world scenarios.
  • Brainμ: A foundational multi-modal model for brain science, aiming to unlock the intricacies of the human brain and inspire new AI architectures.
  • RoboOS 2.0 & RoboBrain 2.0: A collaborative framework for embodied intelligence, integrating large and small brain models to enhance robotic capabilities and decision-making.
  • OpenComplex2: An atomic-level microscopic life model, pushing the boundaries of AI in understanding the fundamental principles of life.

These models represent a bold step beyond traditional AI applications, venturing into the complex realm of physical interaction and aiming to decipher the fundamental laws governing life itself.

The BAAI Conference, renowned as a premier academic event for AI insiders, is characterized by its global perspective, intellectual exchange, and focus on cutting-edge research. This year’s conference boasts an impressive lineup of speakers, including Turing Award laureates Yoshua Bengio, Richard S. Sutton, Joseph Sifakis, and Andrew Yao. Representatives from leading international institutions such as Google, DeepMind, Meta, Mila, Physical Intelligence, MIT, Stanford, UC Berkeley, and the Linux Foundation are also in attendance, alongside key figures from Chinese tech giants like Huawei, Baidu, ByteDance, Tencent, and Alibaba. Over 30 founders and CEOs of prominent AI companies, including Zhipu AI, Unitree Robotics, Shengshu Technology, and ModelBest, are contributing to the vibrant discussions. Furthermore, the conference has attracted over 100 young global scientists and 200 leading AI scholars and industry experts, all converging to explore critical topics such as multi-modality, deep reasoning, next-generation AI pathways, agent intelligence, embodied intelligence, AI for Science (AI4S), AI industry applications, AI safety, and AI open source initiatives.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Huang Tiejun, Chairman of the BAAI Council. Wang Zhongyuan, President of BAAI, presented the 2025 research progress report, highlighting the institute’s advancements in cutting-edge large model technologies and the latest developments in its open-source ecosystem.

BAAI’s journey in general artificial intelligence began with the Wu Dao series of large models, marking the dawn of China’s large model era. Wu Dao 1.0, launched in March 2021, was China’s first ultra-large-scale information intelligence model, filling a critical gap in the Chinese ultra-large pre-training model ecosystem. In June of the same year, Wu Dao 2.0, with its 1.75 trillion parameters, became the world’s largest pre-trained model, achieving international leadership in nine core tasks, including knowledge reasoning and multilingual generation. Wu Dao 3.0, fully open-sourced in 2023, achieved breakthroughs in six key technological dimensions of general vision and multi-modality.

The advancements in large language models and multi-modal models are propelling robotics from the 1.0 era to the 2.0 era. The deep coupling of large models and robotic bodies is driving the robot 2.0 era, centered around embodied intelligence, and accelerating the convergence of the digital and physical worlds.

The Wu Jie series represents a significant step forward in this evolution, promising to unlock the secrets of life and drive the next generation of machine intelligence, extending the reach of AI into previously unexplored territories.
