Tianjin, China – The final module for the Kenli 10-2 oilfield development project (Phase I) was loaded onto a vessel in Tianjin on June 1st, marking the completion of onshore construction for the project’s three offshore platforms. This milestone paves the way for the platforms to be transported to the southern Bohai Sea for installation and commissioning. The news was originally reported by Xinhua News Agency and later highlighted by IT Home.
The Kenli 10-2 oilfield development project (Phase I) comprises a central processing platform and two unmanned wellhead platforms, all newly built. The project also includes the installation of seven subsea pipelines and four subsea cables. Located approximately 245 kilometers from Tianjin in the southern Bohai Sea, the Kenli 10-2 oilfield is a large lithologic oil and gas reservoir discovered by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) in 2021 in the shallow layers of the Laizhou Bay depression. Its proven geological reserves of crude oil exceed 100 million tons.
The scale of the Kenli 10-2 oilfield development project (Phase I) is significant. The central processing platform alone utilizes 42,000 meters of pipelines, with over 40,000 meters of welding. Approximately 760,000 meters of cables are used throughout the platform. The project’s workload is estimated to be twice that of a typical project, requiring the involvement of nearly 1,300 workers during peak construction periods.
A notable feature of the Kenli 10-2 platform is its integration of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The platform is equipped with an engineering and production integrated intelligent assistant powered by Deepseek-R1. This AI system enables integrated intelligent production, energy consumption management, and safety management, aiming to create an innovative, low-carbon, and intelligent offshore platform.
The successful completion of onshore construction represents a significant step forward in the development of the Kenli 10-2 oilfield. Once operational, the oilfield is expected to make a substantial contribution to China’s energy security and economic growth. The project also showcases China’s growing capabilities in offshore oil and gas development, particularly in the application of advanced technologies such as AI to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
The project’s emphasis on AI integration signals a broader trend in the oil and gas industry, where automation and data-driven decision-making are becoming increasingly important. By leveraging AI, companies can optimize production processes, reduce costs, and improve safety. The Kenli 10-2 platform serves as a model for future offshore oil and gas developments in China and around the world.
Conclusion:
The completion of onshore construction for the Kenli 10-2 oilfield’s offshore platforms marks a crucial milestone in China’s energy sector. This project not only contributes to the nation’s oil reserves but also demonstrates the innovative integration of AI technology in offshore operations, paving the way for more efficient and sustainable energy production in the future. Further research and development in AI-driven energy management will be vital for optimizing resource utilization and minimizing environmental impact in the years to come.
