Shanghai, China – The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) announced the 2025 Shanghai Korea-China Shipbuilding Technology Seminar and Business Matching Event held from May 27th to 31st in Shanghai. The event, co-organized by KOTRA, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea, the Busan Metropolitan City Government, and the Busan Shipbuilding Equipment Association, seeks to foster collaboration and export opportunities for South Korean shipbuilding technology within the Chinese market.

The initiative brought together 17 small and medium-sized South Korean enterprises specializing in eco-friendly shipbuilding equipment and over 30 Chinese companies, including Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a leading Chinese manufacturer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

The five-day event featured a range of activities designed to facilitate business partnerships and knowledge exchange. These included one-on-one export consultations, seminars on market entry strategies, visits to local shipyards, and the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and export agreements.

“This event serves as a crucial platform for South Korean companies to showcase their advanced shipbuilding technologies and explore potential collaborations with Chinese partners,” stated a KOTRA representative. “China’s robust shipbuilding industry presents significant opportunities for South Korean firms specializing in eco-friendly and innovative solutions.”

The focus on eco-friendly shipbuilding technology aligns with the growing global emphasis on sustainable maritime practices. As environmental regulations tighten and demand for greener vessels increases, South Korean companies with expertise in this area are well-positioned to capitalize on the Chinese market.

Building on the momentum generated in Shanghai, KOTRA plans to host a similar event in Dalian in August, further solidifying its commitment to supporting South Korean businesses in expanding their presence in China. This ongoing effort underscores the importance of the Chinese market for South Korean shipbuilding technology and the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships between the two nations.

Conclusion:

The KOTRA-organized shipbuilding technology export fair in Shanghai highlights the ongoing collaboration between South Korea and China in the maritime sector. By facilitating business matching and knowledge exchange, the event aims to drive innovation and promote the adoption of eco-friendly shipbuilding practices. The planned follow-up event in Dalian demonstrates a sustained commitment to fostering bilateral trade and investment in this critical industry. This initiative not only benefits South Korean companies seeking to expand their market reach but also contributes to the advancement of China’s shipbuilding capabilities and the global transition towards a more sustainable maritime future.
