Munich, Germany – BMW has released a teaser image of a new concept car, sparking speculation that it could be a shooting brake version of the previously unveiled Skytop concept. The image, released on May 19th, showcases a sleek rear design with slender LED taillights and a sculpted form.

The new car retains design elements from the Skytop convertible, including curved wheel arches and fin-shaped door handles, but adopts a shooting brake body style. BMW describes the vehicle as a unique combination of design aesthetics, elegance, and precision craftsmanship, using terms like dynamic, elegant, and exotic to emphasize its appeal. The company also hinted at its performance capabilities, stating that it will move hearts and conquer curves, suggesting a custom-built, special edition model.

Like the Skytop, this new concept is expected to be based on the soon-to-be-discontinued G15 BMW 8 Series platform. Power is likely to come from the M8 Competition’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing a maximum output of 617 horsepower (460kW).

According to a report by Carscoops, the concept car will be unveiled on May 24th at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Lake Como, Italy. The Skytop made its debut at the same event last year and was subsequently put into limited production with only 50 units. The Skytop concept roadster, rumored to be priced at a staggering $500,000 (approximately 3.6 million RMB), sold out quickly. It also made an appearance at this year’s Shanghai International Auto Show.

Given the positive market response to the Skytop, BMW may be considering putting this new shooting brake into production as well, with a similarly high price tag expected.

Sylvia Neubauer, BMW M division’s Vice President of Customer, Brand, and Sales, confirmed the possibility of Skytop derivatives in an interview, stating, BMW’s strategy is to launch a series of small-batch special editions to the market. There will be a new car released at Villa d’Este this year, and there may be more limited-edition versions with the ‘M’ badge in the future.

Conclusion:

BMW’s teaser image of a new concept car has generated excitement and anticipation within the automotive community. The potential shooting brake version of the Skytop concept represents a blend of luxury, performance, and exclusivity. The unveiling at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is eagerly awaited, and the possibility of a limited production run will undoubtedly fuel demand among collectors and enthusiasts. This move aligns with BMW’s strategy of offering unique, high-end vehicles that cater to a discerning clientele, further solidifying its position as a leader in automotive innovation and design. The success of the Skytop suggests a strong market for such exclusive models, and the new concept car could be another significant step in BMW’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive artistry.
