Seoul, South Korea – Jeju Air, a South Korean low-cost carrier, announced on May 16th that it will resume its round-trip service between Jeju and Xi’an, China, starting May 20th, further expanding its network of routes connecting South Korea and China.

The resumption of the Jeju-Xi’an route signifies a positive step towards increased connectivity and potential growth in tourism and business travel between the two regions. The route will operate twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The outbound flight will depart from Jeju International Airport at 10:00 PM (KST) and arrive at Xi’an Xianyang International Airport at 1:00 AM (local time) the following day. The return flight will depart from Xi’an at 2:00 AM (local time) and arrive back in Jeju at 6:25 AM (KST).

In addition to the Jeju-Xi’an resumption, Jeju Air will also increase the frequency of its Incheon-Weihai route from the current nine flights per week to ten, effective July 1st. Furthermore, the airline is considering launching a new route between Busan and Shanghai, demonstrating its commitment to expanding its presence in the Chinese market.

Currently, Jeju Air operates the most extensive network of routes between South Korea and China among low-cost carriers, with a total of ten round-trip routes. These include services from Incheon to Qingdao, Harbin, Weihai, Yanji, Shijiazhuang, and Jiamusi; from Busan to Zhangjiajie and Shijiazhuang; and from Jeju to Beijing Capital and Beijing Daxing airports.

In April, Jeju Air transported over 46,000 passengers on its South Korea-China routes, representing an increase of 10,000 passengers compared to the previous month. This surge in passenger volume underscores the growing demand for travel between the two countries and highlights the potential for further expansion in the future.

The resumption of the Jeju-Xi’an route and the planned expansion of other routes signal Jeju Air’s confidence in the recovery of the travel market between South Korea and China. As travel restrictions continue to ease, increased air connectivity will undoubtedly play a crucial role in facilitating economic and cultural exchange between the two nations.

Conclusion:

Jeju Air’s strategic expansion in the Chinese market, marked by the resumption of the Jeju-Xi’an route and the increase in frequency on other routes, reflects a positive trend in the recovery of air travel between South Korea and China. This move is poised to benefit both leisure and business travelers, contributing to the strengthening of economic and cultural ties between the two countries. Future developments in this area will be closely watched as the airline explores further opportunities for growth and connectivity.
