Colombo, Sri Lanka – A Sri Lankan Air Force helicopter crashed into a reservoir in the central part of the country on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to six others, according to reports from Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The incident involved a Bell 212 helicopter, which was participating in a flight demonstration as part of a graduation ceremony. Following the crash, the graduation ceremony was immediately called off.
There were a total of 12 people on board the helicopter, stated an official from the Sri Lankan Air Force, confirming that six of the occupants perished in the crash.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. The Sri Lankan Air Force has launched a formal inquiry to determine the factors that led to the tragic accident. Details regarding the extent of the injuries sustained by the survivors have not yet been released.
