Seoul, South Korea – Celebrated South Korean singer and actress IU (Lee Ji-eun) has once again demonstrated her commitment to philanthropy by donating 152 million Korean won (approximately $117,000 USD) to support underprivileged children and teenagers on Korean Children’s Day, May 5th.
EDAM Entertainment, IU’s management agency, announced the generous donation, highlighting the artist’s continued dedication to giving back to the community. The donation, made under the combined name IUaena – a blend of IU’s stage name and her official fan club name, UAENA – will be allocated to several critical areas of need.
Specifically, the funds will be used to support teenagers preparing to leave orphanages and transition to independent living. This assistance will provide crucial resources and opportunities for these young adults as they navigate the challenges of adulthood. Furthermore, a portion of the donation will be directed towards supporting the healthy development of children with disabilities, aiming to improve their overall quality of life and provide access to essential resources. The donation will also contribute to improving the living environments for these vulnerable children.
IU’s consistent philanthropic efforts have earned her widespread recognition. She has a long history of donating to charitable causes on significant dates such as her debut anniversary, birthday, and at the beginning of each year, all under the IUaena moniker. This consistent dedication to giving back led to her being recognized as the youngest individual to be included in Forbes Asia’s 30 Heroes of Philanthropy list in 2019.
This latest donation follows IU’s recent contribution of 200 million Korean won (approximately $154,000 USD) to aid victims of the devastating forest fires that ravaged southeastern Korea last month. These funds were used to support the rebuilding of homes and to improve working conditions for firefighters battling the blazes.
IU’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable populations serves as an inspiring example of how artists can use their platform to make a positive impact on society. Her actions not only provide much-needed assistance to those in need but also encourage others to contribute to their communities.
