Seoul, South Korea – A joint calligraphy exhibition featuring the works of renowned South Korean and Chinese calligraphers, Song Ha-kyung and Zhang Hai, titled 2025 Korea-China Calligraphy Duo Exhibition, is being held at the Korea Fine Arts Gallery, 2nd floor, in Seoul from April 30th to May 6th.
The exhibition, which opened with a ceremony on April 30th at 4:30 PM, serves as a significant cultural exchange between the two nations. A commemorative academic seminar is scheduled for May 1st at the International Hall of Sungkyunkwan University’s Humanities and Social Sciences Campus.
Organizers stated that the exhibition was initiated by Zhang Hai’s visit to South Korea and aims to foster deeper connections between the two calligraphic masters, using art as a bridge to strengthen their friendship. The event is expected to provide valuable insights into the current state and future direction of East Asian calligraphy culture and broaden the scope of artistic exchange between South Korea and China.
Song Ha-kyung, a former professor in the Confucian Studies Department at Sungkyunkwan University, has also served as the director of the university’s museum and the head of the Calligraphy Culture Research Institute in the Department of Confucian Studies and Oriental Studies.
Zhang Hai, born in Henan Province, China, is the honorary chairman of the China Calligraphers Association. In 2018, he was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Calligrapher of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles title.
This exhibition marks a significant moment in the ongoing cultural exchange between South Korea and China, highlighting the enduring power of art to transcend borders and foster understanding.
