Washington D.C. – South Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Choi Sang-mok, held separate meetings in Washington D.C. on April 23rd with Chinese Finance Minister Lan Fo’an and World Bank President Ajay Banga, along with other key national finance ministers and high-ranking officials from international organizations. The discussions centered on exploring avenues for enhanced economic cooperation.
During the meeting with Chinese Finance Minister Lan Fo’an, Minister Choi expressed his anticipation for the successful hosting of the 10th Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Annual Meeting, scheduled to take place in Beijing in June. He also urged China’s attention and support for the successful hosting of the Finance Ministers’ Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), for which South Korea serves as the chair country this year.
The two finance ministers also engaged in discussions regarding potential collaboration within multilateral development banks.
This series of meetings underscores South Korea’s commitment to strengthening its economic ties with key partners and engaging in constructive dialogue on global economic issues. The focus on multilateral development bank cooperation suggests a shared interest in addressing global challenges through collaborative financial mechanisms.
