Shenzhen, China – In a significant move to bolster its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, Shenzhen University officially inaugurated its School of Artificial Intelligence today. The newly established institute aims to cultivate a comprehensive AI talent pool through an integrated undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral program.
The School of Artificial Intelligence will focus on cutting-edge research areas, including fundamental AI theories and embodied intelligence. The faculty boasts a strong research team of approximately 80 members, including two academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one academician from the Engineering Academy of Japan, and five national-level talents.
Guided by the principles of strong foundation, interdisciplinary integration, and internationalization, the institute emphasizes enhancing students’ four-dimensional capabilities. This holistic approach aims to equip students with a global perspective and innovative practical skills, preparing them to become leaders in the rapidly evolving field of AI.
The institute is constructing a basic science research center and a computing platform and is jointly establishing an industrial college with Tencent Cloud.
This launch follows a similar initiative by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), which established its School of Artificial Intelligence in February and plans to enroll its first students in September 2025. These developments underscore the growing emphasis on AI education and research in the region.
