Chuncheon, South Korea, April 20th – A delegation from the Jilin Provincial People’s Congress of China is set to visit the Gangwon Province Special Self-Governing Province Assembly in South Korea, marking the first such visit in ten years, according to Yonhap News Agency.
The Gangwon Province Assembly announced today that the delegation, led by Wang Liping, Deputy Secretary-General of the Standing Committee of the Jilin Provincial People’s Congress, will arrive on April 24th. The delegation comprises a total of five members.
During their visit, the delegation will conduct inspections in Hongcheon County and Wonju City within Gangwon Province. Subsequently, they will engage in discussions with officials from the Gangwon Province Assembly to explore avenues for enhancing friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two regions.
The Gangwon Province Assembly and the Jilin Provincial People’s Congress have maintained friendly exchanges since 1996, jointly working to promote synchronized development in both regions. However, due to factors such as cooling relations between South Korea and China, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, exchanges between the two regions had been temporarily suspended. The most recent exchange activity was a visit by a delegation from the Jilin Provincial Political Consultative Conference to Gangwon Province in March 2015.
This visit signals a potential thaw in regional relations and a renewed commitment to fostering cooperation between Jilin Province and Gangwon Province. The discussions are expected to focus on areas of mutual interest, potentially including trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
