Jeju, South Korea – In a move to bolster the preservation of world natural heritage and enhance tourism cooperation, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province of South Korea has partnered with Leshan, Sichuan Province, China.
On April 15th, the Jeju Island World Heritage Headquarters signed a friendly exchange agreement with the Emeishan Scenic Area Management Committee of Leshan City, Sichuan Province. The agreement, signed in Leshan, signifies a commitment to strengthening the protection of world natural heritage sites and promoting tourism exchange between the two regions.
Key aspects of the agreement include:
- Joint Promotion: Collaborative planning and execution of promotional campaigns to raise awareness about the natural heritage of both Jeju and Leshan.
- Exchange of Expertise: Mutual participation in events and conferences organized by each party, facilitating the exchange of experiences in world heritage protection and utilization.
- Sustainable Tourism: Enhanced cooperation in sustainable tourism management and addressing the challenges of climate change.
The Jeju Provincial Government plans to invite the Emeishan Scenic Area Management Committee to the World Heritage Global Forum, scheduled to be held in Jeju in July. This will provide a platform to showcase Mount Emei, one of the four famous Buddhist mountains in Sichuan, and share experiences in the protection and management of the Leshan Giant Buddha, the world’s largest stone-carved Buddha statue.
This partnership between Jeju and Leshan represents a significant step towards international collaboration in preserving natural heritage and fostering sustainable tourism practices. By sharing knowledge and resources, both regions aim to ensure the long-term protection of their unique natural treasures for future generations.
