Beijing, March 18, 2024 – Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is deepening its commitment to the Chinese market, with CEO Lisa Su delivering an impassioned keynote address at the AMD AI PC Innovation Summit in Beijing. Su emphasized the critical role China plays in AMD’s global strategy, highlighting the company’s growing ecosystem of partnerships and its dedication to supporting the burgeoning AI landscape within the country.

Su, affectionately known as Su Ma by Chinese consumers, makes frequent visits to China to stay abreast of market trends and engage with key partners. This year’s summit underscored AMD’s focus on AI PCs and the transformative potential of artificial intelligence.

China is an extremely important market for AMD, Su stated during her address. She pointed to AMD’s robust research and development presence in China, with over 4,000 engineers contributing to the company’s global innovation efforts. Furthermore, AMD’s EPYC series processors are powering over 340 cloud instances for leading Chinese cloud service providers (CSPs).

AMD’s commitment extends beyond infrastructure, with a rapidly expanding network of independent software vendor (ISV) partners in China. The AMD China AI Application Innovation Alliance already boasts over 100 members, including prominent companies like Tencent Yuanbao, Baichuan Intelligent, and DingTalk. AMD anticipates growing this alliance to 170 partners by the end of 2025.

Su also acknowledged the popularity of the recently launched Ryzen 9800X3D desktop PC processor in the Chinese market, reaffirming AMD’s dedication to gaming enthusiasts with the declaration, AMD loves Gamers!

AI Takes Center Stage

The summit’s central theme revolved around artificial intelligence, which Su described as the most transformative technology in the last 50 years. She emphasized the neural processing unit (NPU) as the cornerstone of AMD’s AI PC strategy. AMD previously introduced the industry’s first x86 processor with a dedicated NPU, and its latest Ryzen AI Max series flagship processors are capable of running large language models (LLMs) with up to 70 billion parameters. This makes them the world’s first AI PC processors capable of handling models of this scale.

AMD showcased its latest AI PC processor offerings, including the Ryzen AI Max series, Ryzen AI 300 series, and Ryzen 9000HX series. AI PCs powered by these new processors are expected to be available soon.

DeepSeek Demonstration Highlights Local AI Capabilities

A key highlight of the event was the demonstration of DeepSeek, a cutting-edge AI model, running locally on an AMD-powered AI PC. The demonstration included generating a Pac-Man game, showcasing the potential for customized and automated AI applications on AMD platforms. Su specifically praised DeepSeek and other advanced models for their ability to leverage AMD technology for enhanced customization and automation.

Jack Huynh, AMD Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics, noted the global impact of AI models developed in China.

A Broad Ecosystem of Partnerships

The AMD AI PC Innovation Summit drew a wide range of partners, including PC brands like Lenovo, ASUS, Microsoft, Acer, Hasee, Minisforum, Emdoor, GMKtec, T-Bao, Honor, HP, JD.com, Machenike, MSI, One-Netbook, Six-Linked, Douyin, and Thunderobot. The presence of these leading PC players underscores the strength of AMD’s ecosystem in China and its commitment to fostering innovation across the AI PC landscape.

The event solidified AMD’s position as a key player in the rapidly evolving Chinese AI market, demonstrating its commitment to providing cutting-edge hardware and fostering a vibrant ecosystem of partners to drive innovation in AI PC technology.
