Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, March 9 (China News Service) – A delegation from the Lai clan in Changhua County, Taiwan, recently journeyed to their ancestral village in Xintian Village, Banzai Town, Pinghe County, Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, to pay homage to their forefathers. The visit underscores the enduring ties and shared heritage between people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

‘If you can walk, you must return on the second day of the second month’ is a proverb passed down through generations of the Lai clan descendants in Xintian, Taiwan, reflecting their deep connection to their ancestral homeland, said Lai Liqun, Vice President of the Lai Clan Association of Changhua County, Taiwan. He emphasized the strong sense of kinship, stating, The Lai clan of Xintian, across the Strait, are one family.

The proverb, deeply ingrained in the Lai clan’s cultural memory, highlights the importance of remembering and honoring one’s origins. The annual pilgrimage to Xintian Village serves as a tangible expression of this sentiment, reinforcing the bonds of kinship and shared identity that transcend geographical boundaries.

This visit is just one example of the increasing cross-strait exchanges and interactions in recent years. As families reconnect with their ancestral roots, cultural understanding and mutual respect are fostered, contributing to a stronger sense of shared heritage and common identity between the people of Taiwan and mainland China.
