Guangzhou, China – In a move to revitalize tourism, the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province of South Korea recently dispatched a delegation to Guangzhou, China, to engage with local tourism industry professionals and promote the region’s diverse attractions.

According to the Gangwon Provincial Government, the delegation, in collaboration with the Gangwon Tourism Foundation, participated in the K-Tourism Roadshow organized by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) on March 6th and 7th. The event served as a platform to showcase Gangwon Province’s scenic spots, festivals, and natural landscapes.

A highlight of the roadshow was the K-Culture Special Experience event on March 7th, which drew over 1,500 Chinese visitors. The Gangwon Tourism Foundation seized this opportunity to host a dedicated tourism promotion session, actively seeking to attract more tourists to the region.

Gangwon Province is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, including the Taebaek Mountains and the East Sea coastline. It also offers a rich cultural experience, with numerous historical sites and traditional festivals. The province is a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts, having hosted the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Following the Guangzhou visit, the Gangwon Provincial Government and the Tourism Foundation plan to assess the outcomes and develop tailored tourism products for Chinese visitors. This includes improvements to tourism infrastructure and intensified promotional efforts. The province also intends to extend its tourism promotion activities to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.

This initiative underscores Gangwon Province’s commitment to attracting Chinese tourists and further strengthening cultural and economic ties between South Korea and China. The province hopes that these efforts will lead to a significant increase in Chinese visitors, boosting the local economy and fostering greater understanding between the two nations.
