Beijing, February 26, 2024 – In a bold move, Chang’an Auto has announced that it will hold the launch event for its new Qiyuan Q07 plug-in hybrid SUV at the same time as Xiaomi’s highly anticipated dual Ultra product launch on February 27th at 7 PM Beijing time. This direct confrontation signals Chang’an’s confidence in its new offering and its willingness to compete head-on with the tech giant’s foray into the automotive market.

While other brands have opted to avoid clashing with the Xiaomi event, which is expected to generate significant buzz in both the smartphone and automotive sectors, Chang’an has chosen a different path. The company made the announcement today, stating that it will simultaneously host the Chang’an Auto Beidou Tianshu 2.0 Plan and Chang’an Qiyuan Digital Night and Q07 Launch Event.

Chang’an Qiyuan further amplified the challenge with a promotional poster that directly addressed Xiaomi Auto, stating: Xiaomi’s 15 years of entrepreneurship, Chang’an’s 40 years of car manufacturing. February 27th 19:00, SU7 & Q07, moving ‘7’gether, creating epoch-making masterpieces!

The Chang’an Qiyuan Q07 is a plug-in hybrid SUV, and it is expected to differ significantly from the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra in terms of positioning and pricing. The exterior of the Q07 has already been revealed, showcasing a sleek design and a choice of five color options: Pine Smoke Ink, Moon Silver, Kingfisher Green, Cloud Shadow Grey, and Cloud Brocade White. The vehicle measures 4837mm in length, 1920mm in width, and 1690mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2905mm.

Inside, the Q07 boasts a tech-forward cabin with an AR-HUD and a central sunflower rotating display screen. A 12.8-inch entertainment screen is included, along with a zero-gravity co-driver seat that offers 8-point massage, ventilation, heating, and memory functions. The co-driver seat also features a backrest that can be adjusted to a maximum angle of 150 degrees and a leg rest with a maximum extension of 320mm.

The Q07 will be available with either a 1.5L or 1.5T plug-in hybrid system. The 1.5L engine delivers a maximum power of 72 kW, while the 1.5T engine offers a maximum power of 110 kW. Both versions utilize an electric motor with a peak power of 165 kW.

Chang’an’s decision to directly compete with Xiaomi’s launch event highlights the increasing competition in the Chinese automotive market, particularly in the electric and hybrid vehicle segments. It remains to be seen whether this strategy will pay off for Chang’an, but it undoubtedly adds an intriguing layer to the already highly anticipated Xiaomi launch. The industry will be watching closely to see how both events unfold and the reception each vehicle receives.
