Seoul, South Korea – A supporter of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol was detained on Wednesday, February 14th, for allegedly attempting to break into the Chinese Embassy in Seoul, according to local police.
The Namdaemun Police Station reported that the suspect, identified as a man in his 40s named Ahn, was apprehended at approximately 7:36 PM on charges of attempted illegal intrusion of a building.
According to reports, Ahn was dressed in the costume of Marvel Comics superhero Captain America and declared his intention to carry out a terrorist attack on the Chinese Embassy before attempting to enter the premises.
Police officials stated that they plan to investigate the full details of Ahn’s actions before deciding whether to seek an arrest warrant.
This incident follows a previous disruption caused by Ahn on February 10th. He appeared at the National Human Rights Commission, also dressed as Captain America, during a meeting discussing a motion to ensure the right to defense in the impeachment case against President Yoon Suk-yeol. Ahn reportedly caused a disturbance by controlling the elevators in the Human Rights Commission building.
The incident raises concerns about security protocols surrounding diplomatic missions in Seoul and the potential for politically motivated acts of disruption or violence. Authorities are expected to review security measures and protocols in light of this event.
