Drenthe to Stop Accepting Waste from AVR Rozenburg After November 1st
Residents of Wijster, Drenthe, are breathing a sigh ofrelief as the province prepares to cease accepting waste from the troubled AVR Rozenburg facility after November 1st. The decision comes after months of increasing complaints aboutfoul odors emanating from the Wijster waste processing plant, where AVR waste has been temporarily stored following a major fire at the Rozenburg facility earlier this year.
The fire at AVR Rozenburg, a major waste processing plant in the Netherlands, left the facility unable to handle its usual volume of waste. As a result, Drenthe, which already operates a waste processing plant in Wijster,agreed to temporarily accept some of the overflow. However, the influx of waste from Rozenburg has led to a significant increase in the volume of waste being processed in Wijster, resulting in a noticeable increase in unpleasant odors for residents.
We have received an increasing number of complaints about the stench in recent weeks, said Egbert van Dijk, a deputy in Drenthe. We understand the frustration of residents, and we are committed to addressing this issue.
The decision to stop accepting waste from AVR Rozenburg after November 1st is awelcome relief for residents of Wijster, who have been enduring the unpleasant odors for months.
