Korean Nobel Laureate Han Kang’s Works See Surge in Library Borrowings
Seoul, October 18, 2024 – Following herhistoric win of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature, South Korean novelist Han Kang has witnessed a dramatic surge in the popularity of her works across the nation’s libraries.
The National Library of Korea analyzed borrowing data for 20 of Han Kang’s books from 1,499 public librariesnationwide. From October 10th to 14th, the total number of Han Kang’s books borrowed reached 11,356, a 1,310.7% jump compared to the 805 borrowed between October 5th and 9th. This represents a 14-fold increase in borrowing numbers since her Nobel win.
