Fire at Second-Tier Supplier Delays Production of Zeekr 7X,but Recovery is Underway
SHANGHAI, CHINA – Zeekr,the premium electric vehicle brand under Geely Holding Group, has confirmed that a fire at a second-tier supplier facility has impacted the production of its highly anticipated 7X model. The fire, which occurred at a facility not owned by Zeekr and resulted in no injuries, caused disruptions in the supply chain, leading todelays in deliveries.
In a Weibo post, Zeekr Vice President Dr. Zhu Ling explained the silence from both himself and Zeekr CEO Zhao Chunlin regarding customer inquiries about delayed 7X deliveries. He revealed the fire incidentand assured customers that Zeekr has been actively assisting the supplier in restoring normal production.
It’s often said that ensuring supply is like putting out a fire, Dr. Zhu wrote. Our supply chain partners are truly’fighting fires’ to keep things running. He concluded by assuring customers that the Meishan factory, where the 7X is produced, is operating at full capacity and deliveries will resume as soon as possible.
The Zeekr 7X, launched on September 20th, has been met with strongcustomer interest. The model, priced starting at 229,900 yuan, boasts impressive features including a 800V architecture, LiDAR, and dual Orin-X chips, making it one of the most technologically advanced vehicles in its segment.
Despite the production setback, Zeekr remains optimistic about the 7X’s success. The company reported that the model has garnered over 20,000 pre-orders, with over 5,000 units already delivered. Zeekr aims to deliver over 10,000 units this month.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of even the most advanced automotive manufacturers to disruptions in the global supply chain. Zeekr’s swift response and commitment to supporting its suppliers demonstrates the importance of strong partnerships in navigating these challenges.
