MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400: A Leap in Performance and Efficiency
MediaTek has unveiled its latest flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9400, boasting a 15% IPC improvement and a 40% reduction in power consumption compared to its predecessor. We got our hands on a testdevice powered by the Dimensity 9400 to see how it performs in real-world scenarios.
Theoretical Performance: High Scores Without High Frequencies
TheDimensity 9400 is built on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, making it the first Android chip to utilize this advanced technology. It boasts a staggering 29.1 billion transistors. The second-generation all-core architecture features an upgraded Cortex-X925 super core clocked at 3.62GHz.
Instead of simply increasing the clock speed, MediaTek has significantly boosted the core cache capacity. The L2 cache has beendoubled, with the super core L2 reaching 2MB. The L3 cache has also seen a 50% increase, reaching 12MB.
The support for the SVE2 instruction set is another key factor in the Dimensity 9400’s performance and efficiency gains. Thisset includes instructions optimized for computer vision, 5G, and multimedia acceleration, allowing the Dimensity 9400 to achieve greater efficiency in various operations. This translates to more idle time for mobile devices, ultimately reducing overall power consumption.
In Geekbench 6 benchmarks, the Dimensity 9400 scored 2956 in single-core and a remarkable 9242 in multi-core. Compared to the Dimensity 9300, this represents a 34% increase in single-core performance and a 22% improvement in multi-core performance.
The Dimensity9400 also shines in the popular AnTuTu benchmark, surpassing the Dimensity 9300 by approximately 28%, reaching a score of 2.81 million. The GPU sub-score shows the most significant improvement, nearing 40%, indicating a substantial leap in graphical capabilities.
Real-World Gaming: Smooth Frames and Low Power Consumption
On the GPU front, the Dimensity 9400 features a 12-core Immortalis-G925 GPU, offering a 41% peak performance increase and a 44% reduction in power consumption compared to its predecessor.
In real-world gaming tests, the Dimensity 9400 achieved a remarkable 382 frames in Manhattan offscreen 3.1. In the more demanding Aztec 1440P offscreen test, the Dimensity 9400 delivered an impressive 128 frames, significantly surpassing the Dimensity 9300’s 99 frames.
Conclusion
The Dimensity 9400 represents a significant leap forward for MediaTek, delivering a powerful and efficient performance that sets a new standard for Android flagship chipsets. The combination of advanced architecture, increased cache capacity, andoptimized instruction sets results in a chip that excels in both demanding tasks and power efficiency. With its impressive gaming performance and low power consumption, the Dimensity 9400 is poised to redefine the mobile experience for users seeking the best of both worlds.
