Steel Industry Embraces High-End, Green, and Intelligent Future: Experts Discussat China International Steel Conference

Beijing, China – The 13th ChinaInternational Steel Conference (CISC) recently concluded, with a dedicated forum on Future Steel Technology that highlighted the industry’s commitment to embracing high-end, green, and intelligent development.

Facing the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, we have a responsibility to explore and shape the future of the steel industry, stated Tang Zujun, Vice President of the China Iron and Steel Association and moderator of the forum. High-end, green, and intelligent development have become new trends in the steel industry, especially green development, which may bringrevolutionary changes to the industry.

The forum brought together leading figures from the steel industry, including Qian Gang, Chairman of CITIC Pacific Special Steel Group Co., Ltd., Meng Fanying, Chairman of Baotou Steel (Group)Co., Ltd., Qu Yang, Vice President of China Metallurgical Group Corporation, Giacomo, CEO of Danieli Group, Lang Chongdao, President and CEO of SMS China, Kurt, CEO of Primetals Technologies China, and Sakata Masahiko, Vice President and Chief Engineer of TMEIC Corporation. These experts sharedinsights into the current state and future trends of steel technology, focusing on the three key areas of high-end, green, and intelligent development.

Innovation and Breakthroughs in High-End and Green Steel

Qian Gang, Chairman of CITIC Pacific Special Steel Group Co., Ltd., highlighted the company’sachievements in high-end steel materials, particularly in special steel. We have been deeply involved in special steel and have achieved significant results in material development. CITIC Special Steel and Nanjing Iron & Steel have four single-item champion products recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Our gear steel has been the global leaderin production and sales for 14 consecutive years. We can produce continuous casting billets with a maximum diameter of 1.32 meters, polysilicon cutting steel wires with a minimum diameter of 0.045 millimeters, and bridge cable steel with a maximum strength of 2200 MPa, Qianstated.

He also emphasized the company’s commitment to green and low-carbon development. We adhere to the concept of green development and continuously research and apply new technologies to achieve ‘green manufacturing and manufacturing green’. For example, we produce materials for hydrogen energy, nuclear power, and photovoltaics, as well as long-life materials, high-strength materials, and lightweight materials. We are also promoting photovoltaic power generation and integrating wind, solar, and storage. CITIC Special Steel has already built a 150 MW photovoltaic power generation project, with another 120 MW project under construction. Xingcheng Special Steel is launchingthe construction of a green special steel benchmark project, which will increase the proportion of electric furnace steel from the current 12% to 21% after completion. Jingjiang Special Steel is promoting the construction of a 500,000-ton near-zero carbon emission electric furnace. At the same time, we are collaborating with Beijing University of Science and Technology to further research near-zero carbon emission electric furnace smelting technology.

The Future of Steel Technology: Towards a Greener and Smarter Industry

The forum participants also discussed the future direction of steel technology, emphasizing the importance of green and intelligent development. The consensus was that theindustry needs to focus on developing innovative technologies that reduce carbon emissions, improve efficiency, and enhance sustainability.

Key areas of focus included:

  • Developing new green steelmaking processes: This includes exploring alternative raw materials, improving energy efficiency, and reducing emissions.
  • Promoting the use of renewable energy sources:The steel industry needs to transition to cleaner energy sources, such as solar and wind power.
  • Implementing advanced digital technologies: This includes leveraging artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and automation to optimize production processes and improve efficiency.
  • Developing new high-performance steel materials: This includes creating lighter, stronger, and more durable materials that meet the demands of emerging industries.

Conclusion

The Future Steel Technology forum at the 13th CISC showcased the steel industry’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. By embracing high-end, green, and intelligent development, the industry is poised to play a vital rolein shaping a more sustainable future. The forum provided valuable insights into the latest technological advancements and the challenges and opportunities facing the steel industry in the years to come.
