Seoul, South Korea – Cha Eun-woo, a prominent member of the South Korean boy group ASTRO and a rising actor, has officially begun his mandatory military service today, July 28th, according to an announcement by his agency, Fantagio.

The news marks a temporary hiatus for the multi-talented entertainer, who has garnered significant attention both for his musical performances and his acting roles in popular dramas.

Cha Eun-woo will undergo basic military training at a training camp before serving as a member of the army military band. This role will allow him to utilize his musical talents while fulfilling his national duty.

Prior to his enlistment, Cha Eun-woo connected with fans via a YouTube live stream, where he revealed a new buzz cut hairstyle, a traditional symbol of military service in South Korea. During the stream, he expressed his commitment to diligently fulfilling his duty to the nation.

South Korea requires all able-bodied men to serve in the military, typically for a period of around 18 months to two years, depending on the branch of service. This mandatory service is seen as a crucial aspect of national defense, given the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region.

Cha Eun-woo’s enlistment follows a trend of other K-pop idols and actors taking time away from their careers to fulfill their military obligations. While it means a temporary absence from the entertainment scene for Cha Eun-woo, fans and industry insiders alike anticipate his return after the completion of his service.
