Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan – A traffic accident occurred on the Fuji Subaru Line, a toll road connecting Mount Fuji’s fifth station to the base of the mountain on the Yamanashi Prefecture side, at approximately 10:00 AM on June 11th. A large tour bus descending from the fifth station collided head-on with a car traveling uphill.
According to police reports, all six occupants of the car, identified as tourists from the United States, sustained injuries, including arm fractures, and were transported to the hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that none of the injuries are life-threatening. The tour bus, carrying 18 passengers, including members of a Chinese tour group, reported no injuries.
The tour bus operator, an Osaka-based company, stated that the bus was en route to Oshino Hakkai in Oshino Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, after completing its tour of Mount Fuji’s fifth station.
Police investigators believe that the car crossed the center line of the road, leading to the collision with the bus. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
Conclusion:
This incident highlights the potential dangers of mountain roads, especially during peak tourist season. While thankfully no lives were lost, the injuries sustained by the American tourists serve as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices. Further investigation by the police is crucial to determine the exact cause of the accident and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. This event may also prompt a review of safety measures on the Fuji Subaru Line, including road markings and traffic management, to ensure the well-being of both local and international visitors.
