Hsinchu, Taiwan – Amid concerns over stable rice supplies in Japan, a ceremony was held in Hsinchu, northern Taiwan, on June 9th to mark the shipment of locally produced rice to Japan. Taiwan’s rice exports to Japan have surged this year, and the island nation intends to actively expand its presence in the Japanese market.
We want to introduce our high-quality rice to specific consumer groups in Japan, letting them know the benefits of Taiwanese rice, said Chen Chun-chi, Minister of Taiwan’s Agriculture Department, at the ceremony. He further stated, We hope to explore new areas in the Japanese market, expressing his expectation for further increases in exports to Japan.
Participants then sealed containers holding 100 tons of rice, celebrating the commencement of the shipment.
According to statistics from Taiwan’s Agriculture Department, rice exports to Japan reached 7,759 tons by the end of May this year, nearly double the total export volume for the entire previous year. It is projected that the total for this year will exceed 10,000 tons.
This increase in exports comes at a crucial time for Japan, which is facing challenges in maintaining a stable supply of rice. The surge in Taiwanese rice imports could help alleviate these concerns and provide Japanese consumers with access to high-quality rice.
